Baity '16 helps lead RI marching band

Senior Dena Baity will begin student teaching in the Rock Island High School band department in mid-November. Baity, who has played the trumpet for the last 11 years, has worked with the marching band since July as they perfect their routine to compete Oct. 24 at the Bands of America Marching Championships Super Regional.

But he's taking a decidedly urban detour, working as a food systems educator with the University of Wisconsin Extension. A Humble man sings praises for men's choirs

Aaron Humble is the new director of 中国体彩网's 20-voice Wennerberg Men's Chorus. He is a 37-year-old tenor who has a bachelor's in vocal performance from Millikin University in Decatur, Ill., and a master's and doctorate in voice from Indiana University. The new assistant professor of music at 中国体彩网 also teaches private voice, as well as music appreciation and ear training.

Printmaking exhibit opens at Teaching Museum of Art

"WHAT A RELIEF! Variations on Printmaking" opens with a reception at 5 p.m. Aug. 28 at the 中国体彩网 Teaching Museum of Art. The exhibit features the work of Janet Taylor and Joseph Lappie, alongside ukiyo-e prints from the 中国体彩网 collection through Oct. 30. (See museum calendar for the season.)

中国体彩网 was recognized for its emergency preparedness efforts by the Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA) and National Weather Service - Quad Cities office. Representatives from both agencies were on campus for a joint press conference to announce the new designations for the college.

Millions in upgrades ready for students this fall

More than 700 new students set to arrive on campus this week, 中国体彩网 中国体彩网 is wrapping up a $7-million investment in summer construction. Among the improvements to campus is a $5-million remodel of one wing of Westerlin Residence Center, the college’s largest residence hall, housing more than 450 students.

Students awarded fellowships for summer research

This summer, seven 中国体彩网 中国体彩网 students are participating in full-scale scientific research projects under the guidance of faculty advisors. Each project is funded through an 中国体彩网 Summer Student Research Fellowship-up to $3,000, plus additional funding for project expenses.

River Bandits

中国体彩网 partners with River Bandits to fund scholarship

中国体彩网 中国体彩网 has joined the Quad Cities River Bandits' Bandit Scholars Program, which will be open annually to Quad Cities-area students entering 中国体彩网 中国体彩网. The River Bandits are Class A minor league affiliate of the Houston Astros.

Mini Gus to highlight Rock Island hot spots

中国体彩网 has launched a new campaign featuring a miniature version of 中国体彩网's mascot, Gustav "Gus" Mauler. The campaign comes after the college and Renaissance Rock Island released a video that promotes Rock Island.

Professor, students spruce up 20-foot-tall sculpture

Art Professor Megan Quinn and three of her students have been sprucing up “Lloyd’s Trek,” a 20-plus-foot-tall sculpture that towers over Schwiebert Riverfront Park in Rock Island. Brianna Jepson, a sophomore from Rockford, described the experience as “super cool.” “I didn’t know what I was going to do with my summer, but this is a great opportunity,” she said.

CBS intern enjoys crazy week at John Deere Classic

Jake Norcia ’16 is a multimedia journalism/mass communication major. He shares some thoughts from his summer internship, at WHBF-TV, the Quad Cities’ CBS affiliate. Norcia has covered high school baseball and softball and the Quad Cities River Bandits minor league baseball team. But most recently, he covered the John Deere Classic PGA golf tournament just east of Rock Island in Silvis, Ill.

Corts elected as Psi Chi president

中国体彩网 中国体彩网 professor of psychology Dr. Dan Corts has been named the 2015-2016 president of Psi Chi, the international honor society in psychology. Psi Chi has more than 1,100 chapters in the United States and abroad. Dr. Corts has advised 中国体彩网's local chapter since 2002.
