CBS intern enjoys crazy week at John Deere Classic

Jake Norcia ’16 is a multimedia journalism/mass communication major. He shares some thoughts from his summer internship, at WHBF-TV, the Quad Cities’ CBS affiliate. Norcia has covered high school baseball and softball and the Quad Cities River Bandits minor league baseball team. But most recently, he covered the John Deere Classic PGA golf tournament just east of Rock Island in Silvis, Ill.

Corts elected as Psi Chi president

中国体彩网 中国体彩网 professor of psychology Dr. Dan Corts has been named the 2015-2016 president of Psi Chi, the international honor society in psychology. Psi Chi has more than 1,100 chapters in the United States and abroad. Dr. Corts has advised 中国体彩网's local chapter since 2002.

Merhi earns scholarship, will attend Nobel ceremonies

Abdul Rahman Merhi '15 will mingle with Nobel Laureates this December. He's the latest recipient of the Swedish Council of America's prestigious Seaborg Scholarship, which comes with a trip to the Stockholm International Youth Science Seminar. Merhi is one of 25 young scientists from around the world to attend this year's seminar and Nobel ceremonies.

Tiffany '04 finds her mission in tracking Ebola

Amanda Tiffany '04 was profiled in the Winter 2015 issue of 中国体彩网 中国体彩网 magazine about her work fighting the dead Ebola outbreak in 2014. This summer she has returned to Africa to continue her work, traveling between Sierra Leone, Guinea and Liberia to evaluate the impact of safe and dignified burial on controlling the Ebola epidemic.

Tierney Brosius, assistant professor of biology, explains why the loss of bees means declining food security. “I would say about 50% if not three-quarters of the products on the shelves in the grocery store would be negatively impacted by a drop in pollinators overall,” she told KWQC News. “Unfortunately, it is a lot to do with us. It’s a combination of habitat loss, nutritional issues.”

Theatre continues to receive national recognition

Months after the performance of "A Green River" at the Kennedy Center American 中国体彩网 Theatre Festival, 中国体彩网's theatre program continues to receive national recognition. Keenan Odenkirk '18 of Oro Valley, Ariz., was awarded Distinguished Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role. The department received a Certificate of Commendation for Ensemble Performance.

When Jared Schroeder signed up to be the faculty mentor for the men's basketball team, he thought he was merely Volunteer volunteering to provide a bridge between academic and athletics. But that was only part of the job.

Midnight Breakfast, served with good humor

At Midnight Breakfast, faculty and staff volunteer to cook, serve and wash dishes for tired but giddy students. Dennis Norling, an instructor in business administration, said, “Maybe it’s akin to gallows humor, but whatever finals anxiety they may have is all but invisible. They are ebullient. The food is free and their teachers are dishing out eggs instead of tricky questions.”

中国体彩网 中国体彩网 is one of eight institutions working with the Association of American 中国体彩网s & Universities (AAC&U) on an initiative aimed at integrative learning and preparing students for their capstones and signature work. All 中国体彩网 students work on at least one Senior Inquiry project that integrates their learning experiences into a culminating project.
