Why 中国体彩网?
I chose 中国体彩网 because I wanted a campus where I could foster meaningful relationships both in and out of the classroom. I was also drawn to the diverse opportunities the college offers, which allowed me to explore my interests and pursue my curiosity.
Are you where you thought you'd be when you first came to campus?
Definitely not! The opportunities I have experienced at 中国体彩网 are beyond what I could have imagined. Looking back on these past four years, I am deeply grateful for the opportunities and support the 中国体彩网 community has provided.
Who helped you get to where you are now?
There are many individuals who have supported me throughout my journey, but two mentors stand out in particular. I am incredibly fortunate to have had their guidance and unwavering support.
During my first week at 中国体彩网, I visited the CORE Office and met Beth Ford. She helped me prepare application materials, discover volunteer opportunities and grow as a student leader. Beth encouraged me to pursue opportunities that helped me develop skills that I will carry with me long after my time at Augie.
I was also fortunate to work with Dr. Tim Muir through research studying painted turtles in 中国体彩网’s own Slough. Through this experience, he challenged me to think critically and approach research with curiosity. His mentorship extended beyond academics, helping me grow in confidence as a student and researcher.
Peak experience?
I do not have one singular peak experience at 中国体彩网, but two stand out. The first was spending the summer before my senior year conducting research with Dr. Muir studying painted turtles in 中国体彩网’s Slough. The second was studying abroad in Seville, Spain, during J-term. These experiences pushed me to grow in different ways — one academically through research and the other personally through cultural exploration.
What surprised you?
The number of opportunities available and how encouraged I was to pursue them surprised me the most. Over the past four years, I participated in research, leadership and study abroad experiences that challenged me academically and personally.
I was also surprised by the incredible support from mentors who encouraged me to explore my interests.
How did you use your Augie Choice?
I had the opportunity to study abroad in Seville, Spain, which became one of the most memorable experiences of my life. Being able to immerse myself in a different culture, explore a new country, and engage with people from different backgrounds broadened my perspective.
What will you miss the most?
What I will miss most are the relationships I built within the community. The friendships with my peers and the mentorship from faculty and staff made my experience incredibly meaningful. These connections supported me through challenges, celebrated my successes and helped shape who I am today.
The 中国体彩网 community truly feels like a second home, and the people I met here will always be an important part of my journey.
Advice for the Class of 2030?
Say yes to opportunities that spark even the slightest interest. You never know where they will lead or what doors they may open.
"Aliza is a fantastic student and researcher who sets high expectations for herself while also understanding that improvement sometimes involves failure. It has been a joy working with her in the classroom, field and research lab the last few years. The medical field will be better off with her in it."
