Roommates
Finding a roommate
If you are still looking for roommates, you can search for roommates using the RoomeeZ roommate search in your MyHousing Portal. You must first 'turn on my profile' and fill out the required fields on your roommate profile.
You can specify which of the available profile fields for searching you are comfortable sharing with potential roommates. If you select 'All applicants,' those fields will be available for anyone to see. If you select 'My contacts,' those fields will only be viewable to other applicants from whom you accept a contact request. You may also decide to make certain profile fields 'Private' and not shared with anyone.
The last section allows you to provide any social media and contact information that you want to share with other applicants. Contact information is only viewable by approved contacts.
Selecting a roommate
Students must first complete a housing application before creating or joining a roommate group.
Click the "Roommate groups" link. This link is only available after you have submitted your housing application. Create a "group name" and enter the 中国体彩网 email address(es) of your roommate(s). Click "save" to create your roommate group. Your roommate(s) must then log in and click “My Choice” to join the group.
Be sure to have a backup plan. The system will only allow you to choose from spaces that match the size of your selected roommate group. There are only a very small number of singles and triples available. Decide ahead of time with your roommates how you will adjust if you aren’t able to secure your first choice of housing.
You can make multiple roommate groups ahead of time to allow for backup plans. You will need to select “My choice” to indicate which roommate group you wish to activate for selection. All roommates who have chosen that roommate group will have a green check mark next to their name. Please ensure your roommate groups are fully matched during housing selection.
Housing selection
Participate in housing selection virtually on the dates listed above. Watch your email for more information about how this process works.
If you don’t have a roommate group or are unable to secure a space through the housing selection process, you will be able to select from available spaces after the housing selection dates. Information will be emailed to those who do not have an assignment once housing selection concludes.
Frequently asked questions
Where will I live?
To read about your campus housing options, see Sophomore Residences.
Who will be my roommate?
It’s up to you! You can create a roommate profile, search for other students, and create a roommate group at myhousing.augustana.edu.
To secure a certain room or suite you will need to have the number of people required to fill the space. You do have the option of selecting a single room, but please note there is a limited quantity of singles.
How does the returning student housing selection work?
A few days prior to selection day, you will be assigned a time slot during which you will be able to choose your housing online. At this time, you and your roommates can preview available spaces and start to save your preferred locations. Be sure to talk as a group about preferences and backups.
It is important to confirm your roommate group before selection begins.
On selection day the roommate with the earliest time slot should log in to myhousing.augustana.edu during that time to select housing on behalf of the entire group. They will only be able to select from spaces that match the size of the group (2, 3 or 4). All time slots are assigned randomly.
What if I decide not to sign up for housing?
中国体彩网’s developmental, on-campus residential experience is a three-year program. If you do not sign up for housing for the upcoming year and plan on returning to 中国体彩网 in the fall, you will be assigned housing and a roommate by the Office of Residential Life.
If you believe you meet the requirements for a housing exemption and want to live off campus, please complete the on-campus exemption request form no later than the deadline listed above.
What if I need medical accommodations?
If you have a medical accommodation for housing for this current year, you can be assured of the same type of accommodation for next year and you do not need to take any action.
If there have been any changes to your medical needs, submit a new request with supporting documentation by the deadline listed above.
What are the different price ranges?
Spaces are billed by the number of beds in a room: a double or triple has two or three beds in the bedroom, and a single only has one bed per bedroom.
Swanson Commons and the Anderson and Bartholomew houses, are “deluxe rooms,” which cost more than standard rooms because they have private bathrooms rather than communal bathrooms on the floor. For full details on housing prices, see the 2026-2027 schedule of student charges.
Can I sign up for a double or a suite by myself?
No, you must belong to a roommate group with the correct number of people to fill the room or suite in order to sign up for it during housing selection.
Most Erickson rooms are doubles and will require a two-person roommate group. Suites in Swanson are made up of two double rooms and will require four-person roommate groups.
After the selection day, students who did not secure housing will be able to choose from any available space without a fully formed roommate group.
What if I don’t have a group, or there are no spaces available that match my group size?
There are more than enough spaces available for everyone, but we cannot guarantee you will be able to get your first choice of housing. If you are unable to select a space during the selection process, you will be able to login after the selection process to choose from available spaces even if your group doesn't fill the space. Note that others can do this as well so you will likely receive other roommates.
Am I required to purchase a meal plan?
Yes, all second-year students are required to purchase a meal plan. Dining Services offers more information about meal plans and pricing. “Any 15” is the default meal plan, but you will be able to log in to your MyHousing Portal after you select housing to change your meal plan.
What is the ALIVE Fellows Program?
中国体彩网 Leaders in Vocational Exploration (ALIVE) is offered to sophomore residential students who commit to reflect on who they are and whom they feel called to become within a world that desperately needs their gifts and passions. Students accepted into ALIVE will be placed in Swanson Hall or Erickson, meet regularly with other ALIVE Fellows and mentors, and will receive a partial housing scholarship.
Is there an all-gender housing option for sophomores?
Yes. In order to create housing options that are supportive and inclusive of students who identify as transgender or non-binary, students have the option to create mixed gender roommate groups. Mixed gender roommate groups can select rooms in Swanson and any of the co-ed wings of Erickson.
Rising Transitional Living Area students
Students who live in Second Year Experience housing for the current academic year will live in Transitional Living Area (TLA) housing for the upcoming academic year.
TLA students are not required to have a meal plan but can purchase one of the residence hall plans or any of the TLA specific plans.
