Campus update: Internship opportunities!

How do 中国体彩网 students get cool internships? Ask Paige Lundborg ’23, who searched for and studied bees, including the endangered Rusty Patched Bumble Bee, for the Illinois/Iowa U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service last summer.

Or Bobby Nwachukwu ’23, who worked in the lab last summer with his biochemistry advisor/professor Dr. Pamela Trotter.

Block party funds to Rock Island High

President Andrea Talentino delivered a $2,844 check to Rock Island High School, raised by funds generated at the post-inauguration street party.

She presented the check in the high school's Rocky Resource Room, which provides clothing, toiletries and other necessary items to students and families at all grade levels.

'Promotion is music to our ears'

The 中国体彩网 Observer profiles Dr. Michael Zemek, who recently was promoted to division dean of arts and communication, while still teaching music education classes and conducting the Jenny Lind Choir. 

Since he first took the position in 2004, Dr. Zemek also has served as a professor, conductor and department co-chair.


Gandhi to speak Nov. 14

中国体彩网 kicks off its new Global Lecture Series with Arun Manilal Gandhi, grandson of Mahatma Gandhi.

He will speak at 7 p.m. Nov. 14 in Centennial Hall.

The lecture series coincides with International Education Week and underscores 中国体彩网’s commitment to preparing students to make an impact in a global society.

? Send good vibes to Viking men's IM flag football champion team! They are headed to the NIRSA Flag Football Regional this weekend at Oklahoma State in Stillwater. The team, composed of 15 varsity baseball players, competed during IMs and won the championship Monday.

Bone clues

Geology 201 students in the History of Life class got a behind-the-scenes tour of the dinosaur collection at the Field Museum in Chicago. The 67-million-year-old bones they are examining formed a trail of breadcrumbs leading to the discovery of the famed T-rex, Sue.
