April 27 update on residence hall move-out

Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker has extended the Illinois stay-at-home order through the end of May, but is allowing college residence hall move-out to resume, provided social-distancing guidelines are followed.

If you are currently away from campus

Log in to housing.augustana.edu and select a checkout appointment time under Assignments. Appointments will be available in mid-to-late May. Specific days for appointments will vary by building, since larger buildings will require more time for moving out than smaller buildings. The last day for residence hall checkouts will be May 23. The last day for TLA checkouts will be June 1.

It is important that you arrive during your appointed time. A limited number of times slots are available in each building to prevent crowds as people check out.

If you or anyone in your household is experiencing COVID-19 symptoms, do not return to campus for any reason. Contact your Area Coordinator (see below) and we’ll work with you individually to make a move-out plan.

If you are currently on campus

If you need to remain on campus for the summer, you can apply for summer housing at housing.augustana.edu. You may stay in your current space until summer housing is available.

If you are able to leave, sign up for a checkout appointment at housing.augustana.edu under Assignments.

If you cannot find an appointment time that works for you

Contact your Area Coordinator (see below) and we’ll work with you individually to arrange a move-out plan.

I’ve already moved my things out. Can I mail my key back?

Yes, you can mail your key to: 中国体彩网 中国体彩网 Residential Life, 639 38th St., Rock Island, Ill., 61201.

Please clearly print your (student’s) name, building and room on a slip of paper and wrap it around the key in the envelope. We recommend using a padded envelope or taping the key to the inside of the envelope so it does not tear a hole.

Email us at residentiallife@augustana.edu with “Keys mailed” as the subject of the email. Send the key before May 25, or we will need to charge a $75 fee to change the lock.

Packing up

Bring your own boxes, and no more than two helpers. Everyone should plan to wear a mask and practice social distancing — no less than 6 feet between people — while on campus. When you arrive, you should park in the lot nearest your building and move your vehicle to the entrance loading zone only when you are ready to load. Coordinate with your roommate(s) so that you do not pick the same checkout appointment.

Be aware that we will not have volunteers available to carry things, and will not have carts or dollies available. You should come ready with any supplies you will need.

How to check out during your appointment

Once your room is empty and clean, just bring your key to the designated area. Detailed instructions will appear in your housing.augustana.edu during your selected checkout appointment time.

Options for storage

Any students who live more than 400 miles from campus can store up to three boxes on campus in Erickson or Swanson. Detailed information and forms to request storage.

Several local storage companies are currently offering discounts to college students.

I have items to donate. Is there a way to do that?

Unfortunately, we are not able to collect donated items as we normally do at closing time. If you have items to donate, please seek out local service organizations such as Goodwill. If you have unopened, non-perishable food items, you can leave them at your hall desk to be donated to the Campus Cupboard.

I rented a micro-fridge. What should I do with it?

When you first arrive, unplug the fridge and remove any food. If ice has built-up in the freezer, chip it out and put it in a sink. Put a towel in bottom of the fridge with the door open so it can defrost. Before you leave, wipe it out, and leave it in the room with the door propped open. We’ll remove it for you later.

If I can’t personally return to campus, can I send someone else to get my things and check out for me?

Yes, we will allow you to designate a friend or family member to collect your things and check out for you if you are unable to return to campus.

If your roommate has not checked out yet, please make sure that she or he is aware of your plans and that you are communicating with each other so your designee does not accidentally pack the wrong things. Email your Area Coordinator to share the name of the person who will be packing your room.

Is summer housing available?

Yes, for those who need summer housing, it is available. Information can be found on our summer housing web page. The summer housing application is available at housing.augustana.edu.

I live in a TLA and have a lease that begins on June 1

Those in a TLA with a local lease that begins on June 1 will have the option to select a checkout appointment at housing.augustana.edu for June 1. Note that June 1 is the latest date that we can allow anyone to remain in a TLA.

If I have questions, whom should I contact?

Please contact your Area Coordinator:

First-year students: Amanda Tumbarello

Second-year students: Victor Jia

TLA students: Ariel Rogers
