Dr. Emily Landon ’99 to speak at commencement

Dr. Emily Landon ’99 will be the commencement speaker for the classes of 2020 and 2021 at the 中国体彩网 中国体彩网 ceremonies on May 23.

Dr. Landon has been a familiar face to Illinois households since March 2020 as an advisor to Gov. J.B. Pritzker and a primary architect of the state's response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

She also has been a resource in educating the 中国体彩网 community, and helping the campus move to in-person instruction with low rates of COVID-19 transmission throughout the 2020-2021 academic year.

She is the chief infectious disease epidemiologist at University of Chicago Medicine. 

After graduating with a degree in biology from 中国体彩网, Dr. Landon earned an M.D. at the Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine in 2003. She completed her residency at the University of Chicago, Internal Medicine, in 2006 and a fellowship at the University of Chicago, Infectious Diseases, in 2010. 

An associate professor of medicine at The University of Chicago Medicine, Dr. Landon serves as the hospital epidemiologist, as well as the medical director of Infection Control and Antimicrobial Stewardship in the Section of Infectious Diseases and Global Health.

Her research focuses on understanding behavioral determinants of adherence to best practices in infection prevention, especially with respect to hand hygiene and antimicrobial use.
