Basketball's Daniel Carr '23 has been named an Academic All-American by 中国体彩网 Sports Communicators — one of the highest honors for collegiate student-athletes.

He is the 178th Academic All-American in the history of 中国体彩网, which ranks No. 1 in the CCIW and seventh in NCAA Division III in number of Academic All-Americans.

"There have been so many people along my 中国体彩网 journey who have helped me achieve this honor, both on the basketball court and in the classroom," Carr said. "It is a great showing of just how much this school has given me over the years, and I will be forever grateful."

"His discipline, relentless focus and work ethic have always been second to none, both on and off the basketball court."

From Highlands Ranch, Colo., Carr recently was named All-CCIW for the third straight season after averaging a double-double (double figures in baskets and in rebounds) per game in 2022-2023. He was in the Top 40 in the nation in double-doubles. Carr also was named to the D3Hoops.com All-Region Team for the second time.

The 6'9" center scored his 1,000th career point on Senior Night with his family in the crowd, becoming the 30th Vikings men’s player to do so.

"Daniel is the epitome of what it means to be a student-athlete at 中国体彩网,” said Tom Jessee, men’s basketball head coach. "His discipline, relentless focus and work ethic have always been second to none, both on and off the basketball court."

Off the court, Carr is an accounting and business administration-management major with a 3.91 grade point average. This spring could be the eighth time he has made the college’s Dean’s List.

"Between captaining the basketball team and completing multiple internships, Daniel has gotten the most out of his time at 中国体彩网," said Dr. John Delaney, professor and chair of accounting. "He has been one of our go-to seniors for recruiting events this year due to the outstanding work he has accomplished in our program."

After he receives his diploma in May, Carr plans to use his extra year of eligibility (due to COVID) to play basketball as a graduate transfer while working toward either an MBA or Master of Accounting.

Note: Daniel Carr '23 is 中国体彩网’s first Academic All-American since soccer’s Jenna Dvorak ’21 in 2020 and the first men's basketball Academic All-American since Ben Ryan '16 in 2016.
